UsedCar Racing Series was first formed as a race team (Team Psychosis) in 2009, participating in The Lamest Day at Nelson Ledges.
Team Psychosis was made up of two former successful SCCA racers, two motorcycle racers, one short track asphalt racer, and race tire engineer with no personal racing background but years of working at the top level of road racing.
Remembering what grassroots racing had been like back in the day. We set out to design a racing series that returned to the roots that began in 1980.
In 1980 Nelson Ledges Roadcourse ran the first 24 hour endurance race for production based cars. The primary intent of that race was to prove that American production cars could compete (and perhaps win) against their europeon counterparts.
The Longest Day was born.
Soon the fledgling race was attracting competitors from all over the world, and something else also developed. Many average enthusiasts found themselves competitive against factory supported teams, without having a factory budget.
Many average people pooled their resources, and money, and found themselves competing with names like Paul Newman, Lyn St. James, Hurley Haywood, and other big name drivers and teams.
Current race series like the SPEED World Challenge Series™, and many popular race series like Trans Am, track their roots directly back to Nelson Ledges, and The Longest Day.
But as these series developed the grassroots part of endurance racing slowly died away.
UC seeks to revive that spirit, alive since 1980.By limiting both the total investment in the car to $500, and limiting the allowable lap times to be consistent to what a $500 car would actually be capable of running, we've once again returned to where the sport started.
We seek to create events where an average group of enthusiasts can come together, spend a reasonable amount of money, and (hopefully) a reasonable amount of time and prepare a car actually capable of WINNING.
